The quick-witted Enfield is relatively common in its native country of England, but at first glance it is often perceived to be a garden-variety fox. It is rarely seen in the wild, yet it often appears on select heraldic art, being that the Enfield is a common symbol of diligence and cunning. It is of little consequence that Enfield sightings stopped being reported after the ban of foxhunting in England. Due to its resemblance to the common fox, Enfields would sometimes be confused by both man and hound to be the target of the hunt. This mistake often would not be realized until after the Enfield led its aggressors through a gauntlet of thorn bushes and man-made traps; such trickery usually resulted in the deaths of multiple hounds and the occasional mounted hunter. Under normal circumstances, the Enfield is perfectly content to treat someone with the same courtesy that it is given in return. If the Enfield feels wronged by a person in any way, there is almost no way to appease it or stop it from exacting what it sees as fitting vengeance. Luckily, while this beast has a quick temper, it rarely holds a grudge
Oh wow, this is beautiful! The style is absolutely perfect -- it certainly looks antique, especially with those soft color washes. Nice job mixing the anatomies as well.
I'm not kidding, take a look: [link] In fact, I am fairly certain that I found you because of that. I was searching up "Enfield" on dA and happened across this picture.
I loved these (you should totally add the missing descriptions) and getting info about "new" mythical creatures. So many things aren't "cool" enough to get attention (like no one seems to know rats-ass about nordic mythology, except for the generic gods).
Wow. This is really interesting. I've always loved things like bestiaries and to see that you're putting together one for things that are normally left out is absolutely amazing. It must've taken you ages to dig up the info on some, if not all, of these. And, as always, the artwork that acompanies it is wonderful. If I haven't said it before, I'd like to steal at least some of your tallent.
